2017 The West End Beautification and Trail Project is under way! 1000 feet of drip system is being installed at the main entrance to the Fairgrounds. The watering system has been made possible by a grant from Keep America Beautiful. Funding for trees has been donated by Milestown Community Improvement Incorporated and another private source. Thank you to Rob Pederson from Northern Landscape for partnering with us in this project. Pollinator Garden: Miles City Community Garden Keep Miles City Beautiful received a pollinator garden from Keep America Beautiful through a donation from Dickinson's Witch Hazel. We partnered with volunteers from the Miles City Community Garden to plant the garden. The garden has been registered on the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge website: http://millionpollinatorgardens.org/. To date 337,102 pollinator gardens have been registered on this site. Special thanks to Scott and Jenette Denson and Jenny Sloan for preparing and planting the garden! 2014 Projects Paper Shredding Event: September 11, 2014 4,000 pounds of shredding were collected at this first time event. The KMCB America Recycles Day Project for 2014 was held in conjunction with RSVP and AARP. Recycle Bowl - Elementary schools collected recyclables within their schools as part of a KMCB, KAB contest. KMCB awarded Garfield School the $100 prize for the most recycling per capita. Pine Hills Park Project - Beginning spring of 2014, KMCB partnered with Pine Hills for the development of a community park. Fair Recycling August, 2014: KMCB volunteers collected 46 bags (276 pounds) of recycling during the Custer County Fair. Bucking Horse Sale recycling- May, 2014 Over 50 bags of recycling were collected at the sale as part of our Lend-a-Bin program. Work continues to take place to educate the public about recycling at the sale and decreasing the amount of aluminum and plastic which gets tossed in the landfill. Great American Cleanup of Miles City Cleanup projects were completed the first 3 weeks of May. Volunteers completed over 200 hours of work to spruce up the town. Do Good Have Fun, April 25, 2014 This beautification project took place at the grandstand area of the fairgrounds. Completed were several paint projects, assembly of new benches, the hanging of a new metal bucking horse, placement of new planters, and repair work. After 2 hours of work, beer, sports drinks, food prepared by the Redneck Grill followed for the volunteers complements of Anheuser Busch Keep Miles City Beautiful, and the Billings Clinic. Adopt-a-Pot Planting Volunteers planted 20 large flower pots which were stored at the Pine Hills facility greenhouse and placed in front of adopting businesses for the summer. |
